Then they came towards Dinas Dinlleu. Lleu Llaw Gyffes was reared till he could ride every horse and till he was perfected in feature, growth and stature. And though he was of outstanding generosity and courage, Gwydion saw that he was pining for want of horses and arms. They arose and took the seashore, up towards Bryn Arien; and at the top of Cefyn Clun Tyno they made ready on horseback and came to Caer Aranrhod in the disguise of two young men, saying that they were bards from Morgannwg. There was joy at their coming, and the hall was made ready.
The next morning at early cockcrow Gwydion arose. By the time the light of day was dawning he heard a bustling to and fro and trumpets and clamour throughout the country. Then Aranrhod came to them saying that there was a mighty fleet approaching the land with speed. Gwydion said that they must close the caer and he would prepare a defence as best he could against the approaching force, if there were arms enough.
